Gravitational Waves and Proton Decay: Complementary Windows into Grand Unified Theories

چکیده
Proton decay is a smoking gun signature of Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). Searches by Super-Kamiokande have resulted in stringent limits on the GUT symmetry breaking scale. The large-scale multipurpose neutrino experiments DUNE, Hyper-Kamiokande and JUNO will either discover proton or further push scale above $10^{16}$ GeV. Another possible observational consequence GUTs formation cosmic string network produced during to Standard Model gauge group. evolution such expanding Universe produces stochastic background gravitational waves which be tested number wave detectors over wide frequency range. We demonstrate non-trivial complementarity between observation from strings determining $SO(10)$ chains. show that observations could exclude via flipped $SU(5)\times U(1)$ standard $SU(5)$, while Pati-Salam intermediate symmetry, U(1)$, may favoured if large separation energy scales associated with indicated. note recent results NANOGrav experiment been interpreted as evidence for at $\sim 10^{14}$ This would strongly point towards existence GUTs, being prime candidate. combination already available constraints allows identify preferred routes Model.

A Reexamination of Proton Decay in Supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories
We reconsider dimension–five proton decay operators, making semiquantitative remarks which apply to a large class of supersymmetric GUTs in which the short-distance operators are correlated with the fermion Yukawa couplings. In these GUTs, which include minimal SU(5), the operators (udi ) (djντ ), induced by charged Higgsino dressing, completely dominate for moderate to large tan β. The rate fo...
متن کاملSUPPRESSION OF d = 5 OPERATOR INDUCED PROTON DECAY IN SUPERSYMMETRIC GRAND UNIFIED THEORIES
The proton decay in supersymmetric (SUSY) Grand Unified Theories (GUTs), where the special mechanism provides the natural suppression of the dimension 5 (d = 5) operators, was studied. Due to this mechanism, d = 5 operator induced proton decay takes place only through the mixing of light generation fermions with those from third generation and crucially depends on the structure of fermion mass ...
متن کاملGravitational corrections to fermion masses in grand unified theories
There are several hints that the strong and electroweak forces unify at some very large energy typically assumed to be at around 10 GeV. The quantum fields of the standard model fit nicely into simple representations of a grand unified theory [1] such as e.g. SUð5Þ or SOð10Þ. The idea of unification is extremely attractive for several reasons. For example, a grand unification drastically reduce...

In spite of all the successes of the Standard Model [SM] it is unlikely to be the final theory. It leaves many unanswered questions. Why the local gauge interactions SU(3)C × SU(2)L × U(1)Y and why 3 families of quarks and leptons? Moreover why does one family consist of the states [Q, u, d; L, e] transforming as [(3, 2, 1/3), (3̄, 1,−4/3), (3̄, 1, 2/3); (1, 2,−1), (1, 1, 2)], where Q = (u, d) an...
